Buying a quality water bottle is crucial when going camping. Especially camping in the summer when you need stay hydrated and water is not as accessible as your refrigerator door. Stop wasting money on the large packs of purified plastic water bottles. We live in New York State, so when we buy plastic water bottles we are charged the five cents for each bottle. If we returned the bottles we would get the money back, but when camping it seems too easy to toss in the recycling. Another great reason to break away from the plastic water bottles and switch over to a reusable bottle like the Hydro Flask is that it is far better for the environment.
We can honestly say a quality air mattress is worth its cost in gold when camping. We have been so frugal in the past where we have even brought a futon mattress we have in our spare bedroom with us to sleep on. Still, nothing has been more comfortable sleeping in a tent than with an air mattress. The initial cost can be a little pricey depending on the type of mattress you purchase, but a well-taken for air mattress can you last you 5 to 10 years.
Some of you might be wondering how this product is a camping hack. Placing foam mats on the bottom of your tent will save the life of the tent floor. The floor of the tent receives a lot of traffic between dirt, sand, and sticks. By placing these mats down it makes it for easy cleanup and keeps you comfortable while tent camping. Easy to store on during your travels and easy to assemble!
Where we camp every year we are always in need of firewood and ice. The ice is in higher demand than the firewood because we need to keep our coolers cool, so we can keep our food cold. The local convenient store or gas station to get ice is about a 20-minute ride into town. We always are dishing out cash to anyone going into town to pick up ice. This compact ice maker will not only save us money on ice, but also the gas to go into town. The ice maker makes 26 lbs. of ice per day! We normally buy a few 5-pound bags. Great camping hack! This item is super convenient and a great camping size. You could even start making money by selling ice to other campers? #savvy
A personal water filter straw? How is that going to save me money? It’s going to save your life! For under $15 this straw allows you to drink any type of water, anywhere. You can drink up to 264 gallons of water with this filtration device. The straw is small and compact so it can be packed with ease.
One of the worst aspects of camping is the unpredictability of the weather. The worst weather is when it rains and it is hard for items to dry out. For me, I always like to use a dry towel when I get out of the shower or the water when camping. This seems like a rarity at times. With microfiber towels, they are super absorbent and easy to pack. The drying time is so much shorter than a cotton towel. They will save you money on your laundry when getting home too because you will have fewer towels to clean and dry.
Whether tent camping or RVing, this camping hack is for you! A money saving, space saver like an over the door shoe rack is a must buy! There are so many different uses! If you are tent camping, the shoe organizer could be hung by using s-hooks on a screen tent or regular tent. Place plastic cutlery in the pockets, napkins, cups, and items used on a regular basis that can be quickly grabbed and organized. RVers have the luxury of having actual doors to hang their shoe organizer on and allow for actual shoes or clothes to be stored.
What better camping activity to do when it is raining then to play games. Why purchase individual games when you can purchase a set of classic games altogether. What is great about this set is that it is made out of wood, so you know it will last. I don’t know about you, but the more we play games made out of cardboard the more beat up they become. I also like the drawer on the bottom to hold all the games pieces.
9. Solar Panel
A solar panel can save you money in more ways than you think. The less you have to run your generator the less gas you use. Solar panels allow you to charge all your electronics using mother nature so you can use them outside of generator hours. If you camp often a solar panel should be on your list. Start helping out the environment and go green.
10. Mason Jars
Gone are the days where you drag your whole pantry camping. Filing pantry food in tubs or bags and living out of them during your time camping is over. Mason jars are a convenient way to save money, however, they do require a little bit of time to put in. Use mason jars to pre-portion out your food. If you know one morning you will be making pancakes, one way you can use the mason jar to have the mix ready at the bottom. Mix in water from the above reusable water bottle and pour! Mason jars have amazing lids and the seal will keep your food fresh even if you didn’t finish it or use it while you were camping.
