Every time I watch Chip and Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper, I want to redo my kitchen decor to look like a farmhouse. Even though we do not live in a farmhouse or close to a farm, I still love the decorating that comes along with the old-fashioned look of farmhouse kitchen decor.
What I love about what Joanna can do is mix the old farmhouse style with a new modern kitchen. Using old farmhouse items to make gorgeous home decor items, just takes some searching for unique pieces.
When you find some excellent farmhouse decor pieces you will be able to spice up your kitchen. Here are 10 farmhouse decor kitchen ideas to get you started!
1. Cheese Grater Towel Rack
Found on Blesser House
From drab to fab! This old cheese grater was garbage to someone. Now it could be used as a treasure in your farmhouse decor. I love this idea! Having the kitchen towels on the arm of the stove can be dangerous. This is an all-around perfect solution.
2. Repurposed Metal Rake
Found on Sortrature
I have seen many repurposes for the bottom of an old rake. Above, they have cleared off their utensil canister from the counter and repurposed them on to the rake. If you have limited counter space, this might be an excellent option for you. I have also seen the rake repurposed as a wine glass holder. One versatile piece of decor!
3. Old Canister with Fresh Flowers
Found on Dear Lillie
The old milk jug is perfect to have out on the counter or kitchen table holding fresh flowers. You do not need to find this exact jug. Even an old vintage coffee can with beautiful hydrangeas can bring beauty to any can.
4. Chicken Wire Cabinet Doors Farmhouse Kitchen Decor
Found on Homeylife
One of the easiest ways to bring farmhouse decor to your kitchen is with your cabinets. I personally would not do this to all of my cabinets, but I think a few cabinets with chicken wire or glass cabinets can upgrade your kitchen.
5. Exchange Pantry Doors for Barn Doors
Found on House Beautiful
A very popular way people are making their homes more farmhouse like is with the use of barn doors. Upgrade your current pantry doors to these barn style doors and instantly your kitchen will be different.
6. Farmhouse Benches
Found on Inside Decor
Look at those beautiful farmhouse benches! Many people have standard bar stools in their kitchen. Turn into a farmhouse look by making these farmhouse benches. I love how big the benches are compared to traditional bar stools. More people to gather in the kitchen!
7. Rusted Vintage Scale
Found on Blesser House
We all struggle with ways to make our fruit displayable yet grabbable in our kitchens. This idea with the old kitchen scale takes displaying fruit to a new level. This home decor piece could tie your whole kitchen look together. Look for one at an antique shop or DIY one like Blesser House did!
8. Wall Herb Garden
Found on HomeDIT
Every time I watch Fixer Upper, Joanna is always tieing in an herb garden into the kitchen. Why keep a wall in your kitchen blank when you can use it to your families benefit like growing an herb garden. I wish we cooked with herbs more often and if we had a wall dedicated to herbs we definitely would.
9. Produce Wall Holder
Found on Ideas at the House
Similiar to the idea of the produce displayed in the scale, you could display it on the wall. This idea is so simple and can be created with a few metal baskets to hang. No wasting food when it is at eye level every time you are in the kitchen.
10. Milk Glass and Tray
Found on Rooms for Rent
A milk glass is always a farmhouse decor go to. It is classy and elegant in any kitchen. Pair it with some old antique items and you have yourself the perfect display of modern and vintage. Joanna would be impressed!
Most of the above farmhouse decor items could be found in vintage or antique shops. Repurpose items and think of how they can be used in a new way.
Think about the space of your kitchen and how to get the most out of counters and wall space.
Mix the old with the new for a fabulous DIY farmhouse makeover.
