What does your dream life look like? I don’t mean lying on a yacht with Bradley Cooper feeding you grapes (although that’s a nice dream!) – but how you do you really want your life to look.
Do you want to work only a few days a week? Do you want to change career?
What does a dream day look like to you?
Be as specific as possible, imagine what time you’d like to wake up in the morning, what you’d like to work on – do you want to work for yourself or for others?
Do you want to work fewer hours and pick your kids up from school? Or do you want to work more, building up your own business?
As you can see from some of those suggestions, everyone has a different idea of what a dream life will look for them. It’s important to look at all areas of your life and what you want it to look like day-to-day.
2) Create Financial Goals and Prioritize Them
Now you know what you want your dream life to look like, it’s time to get started on working towards it!
It’s 100% possible to get the life of your dreams, as long as you have a plan of action and a big dose of determination. It’s important to figure out your financial priorities.
In order to reach any goal, it’s important to work backward. You need to write down every single thing that you need to do in order to reach your goal, starting from the end.
Then, all that you will need to do is to write them on your calendar and action then – it’s as simple as that!
A lot of the time, we tend to drift around without any sort of plan, which is why it seems so hard to reach our dreams.
Your goals could look a little something like this:
- Creating an epic budget
- 3-6 month emergency fund in case anything happens
- Paying off debt
- Go on annual vacations
- Set up own business
- Cut hours at work
- Saving for retirement
- Saving up for kids college funds
- Moving out of your parent’s house
- Saving for a down payment on a house
3) Stay on Track
Once you’ve put together your plan and you’re on track, it’s important to stay focused.
As motivating as it may seem to be working towards your big goals, it may require some temporary sacrifice which may not feel that fun.
Motivation is something that needs to be practiced daily, and it helps to keep your big goals in mind.
The best thing to do is to work some positive habits into your daily routine, for this will ensure you keep doing the things that you need to do.
I personally believe that you should do certain habits every day rather than a few times a week, as it means your body and brain will get used to it and it will become your normal.
Examples of habits that you can do daily to reach your goals:
- Waking up early and getting started on the daily tasks before everyone else is up
- Go to the gym (if you have fitness goals specifically, although of course, it is beneficial for everyone to be active)
- Work on a side hustle to get some extra income in
- Go through your budget and finances to manage your money
