Miles App Review
First, let me just say we were a bit skeptical about this app when we first started preparing for the Miles App Review.
We love earning frequent flyer miles, but we weren’t sure how an app could help us rack up points for plain ground transportation.
But after learning more about the Miles app, we have to say that we’re impressed and happy to be part of the program!
What It Is
The Miles App is a smartphone application that allows you to share your location data in exchange for rewards points called “miles.”
The app download page describes the app as “a frequent flyer program for all transportation encompassing your daily commute and travel.”
You don’t have to log any trips to track the mileage you travel. The app automatically logs them with every kind of travel, including:
- Plane
- Train
- Subway
- Bus
- Boat
- Bicycle
- Walking
Miles App Features
Let’s look at the rewards program so you can learn what they are and how they can help you get paid to do nothing but share your location and get moving.
Earning Points (And Bonuses!)
Once you’ve signed up for an account on the Miles app, you can earn miles automatically by sharing your location on your phone.
They start you off with 2,000 bonus miles when you sign up. Then you start adding miles by getting around like you do any day.
Different modes of transportation get you different points. Travel by car or air is worth one point per mile.
At that rate, it would take a while to rack up many points (unless you travel a lot)! So they added ways that you can earn bonus points.
Do you travel by carpool or ride-share? You can earn two miles per mile on the app.
Public transportation, like a bus ride or subway trip, will earn three miles points per mile that you travel.
You earn five miles for each mile you travel when you ride your bicycle! So if you make five bike trips for one mile every day in a week, you’ll earn 25 miles.
You earn points for each mile traveled by walking, and it’s actually the activity that earns you the most points! Walking one mile will earn you 10 miles on your Miles app.
You can get extra miles during the holidays and on a special occasions like your birthday or wedding anniversary.
Like on most apps, when you sign up, you get a unique link for their app referral programs. You give your link to your friends and family to sign up, and you earn miles went they do.
Challenges
Be sure to join the Miles group on Facebook to participate in special promotions and challenges posted on it.
You can earn valuable promo codes to put into the app to win more miles.
Tracking System
When you download the Miles app, the app starts tracking your movement by the GPS on the phone.
You don’t have to turn it on and off or log into your Miles account; the Miles app tracking system runs in the background all the time.
You may wonder how the Miles app will know the difference in your modes of travel and how it will award the correct mode of transportation.
The app then takes the information about your travel and analyzes it to figure out what mode of travel you are using. It uses the speed it took to get to your destination and assigns the category for the mode of travel.
Miles Location Predictions
The Miles app uses the GPS location information on your smartphone to make future location predictions about your travels.
It keeps a detailed log of your trips, allowing you to go back and correct any mistakes the app may have made (such as recording the wrong vehicle journey for a ride-sharing service).
Using this information may make you a little worried about your privacy. Sharing your information lets the app know where you work, shop, have lunch, and where you go shopping for your everyday purchases.
Redeem Points From Miles App
Your Miles app rewards never expire or have minimums to reach, so you can use them immediately or save them to redeem rewards for future deals.
There are several ways that you can redeem your Miles app rewards:
Gift Cards
One of the easiest ways to redeem your points is for free gift cards from one of the Miles app partners.
Some of the most popular partners are:
The points can also be redeemed online or in physical stores. They can be redeemed as QR codes, promo codes, coupon codes, and discount codes.
You can also get free trials on Coursera and Vudu Credit.
Raffles
You can also use your points to buy raffle entries for a chance to win a gift card.
The gift cards are usually for Walmart, Target, Starbucks, and Amazon, usually for $25, but sometimes for more.
There have also been drawings for up to $250 deposited directly to your PayPal account.
Donating Miles
You can also redeem miles as contributions to donate to charitable organizations like the American Heart Association (AHA), Feeding America, and Habitat For Humanity.
Miles Apps Statuses/Memberships
Like other rewards and loyalty programs, the Miles app has different tiers- Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The tier status for the next month is determined by the number of miles you earn in the current month.
Each tier has different point redemption rates. Here’s how the benefits are determined:
Silver Benefits
Earning 750 miles or less in the previous month will place you in the “Silver” tier. The Silver tier benefits include:
- Birthday bonus: 2,500 miles
- Miles anniversary bonus: 2,500 miles
- Monthly bonus: 100 miles each month
Gold Benefits
Once the Silver users go over 750 miles, the Silver status receives upgrades.
Miles app users that have accrued 750 to 1,999 miles the previous month are placed in the “Gold” tier. Gold tier benefits include:
- Birthday bonus: 2,500 miles
- Miles anniversary bonus: 2,500 miles
- Monthly bonus: 200 miles each month
Platinum Benefits
Miles users need to accrue 2,000 miles or more or have redeemed at least two gift cards the previous month to be placed in the Platinum tier. Platinum tier benefits include:
- Birthday bonus: 2,500 miles
- Miles anniversary bonus: 2,500 miles
- Monthly bonus: 400 points
- Redemption rates that are better than the lower tiers
- Early rewards access

We found apps that pay you to work out, walk, or lose weight, though not in travel miles like the Miles app.
Let’s give a quick rundown on these other apps and see how much more you can earn through your travels:
HealthyWager
HealthyWager is a unique app that will help you meet your fitness goals by rewarding cash for meeting specific targets. You can bet on yourself to lose weight and, if successful, earn money!
You’re more likely to stick with your goals with some money on the line. Studies show that people are more motivated to meet goals due to loss aversion- if you make a bet on yourself, you don’t want to lose that money!
Check out our review of this fitness goal app to find out how much money you can make with HealthyWager.
Sweatcoin
Sweatcoin is an innovative way to encourage people in their everyday lives. The more you sweat, the better your chances of winning!
You can earn Sweatscoins by walking or running outdoors. Then redeem them for prizes like music downloads, digital watches, electronics, magazines, and more.
StepBet
With StepBet, you get paid to walk by making a bet on yourself to meet the walking goals you have set. Each week you hit your StepBet goals, the “pot” is divided with the other StepBet winners.
One thing, though, if you don’t make your weekly goal, you are out of the bet and have to start over!
